Hey there! We're Melissa and Tom!
Welcome to All in the Family Recipes, a blog run by a father-daughter duo, Tom and Melissa, fueled by our love for comfort food and our affection for the iconic show, "All in the Family".
Who are we?
I'm Melissa, a food scientist and registered dietitian. I'm from a small town north of Pittsburgh but currently live in Charleston, SC. Armed with a Bachelor's degree in Food Science from Clemson University, I love exploring the intricacies of food, both on the plate and scientifically.
I run two other another blogs, A Grateful Meal and Screaming for Ice Cream. When I'm not busy developing and photographing recipes, you'll find me diving into Charleston's vibrant culinary scene or dreaming of my next travel adventure. Most recently, I got to explore the flavors of Italy in the Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna regions.
I'm Tom, the seasoned chef of our duo, bringing 40 years of extensive experience in the food industry to the blog. I went to the International Culinary Academy in Pittsburgh (later became Le Cordon Bleu Pittsburgh). I've worked in every part of the industry from country clubs to casual dining to colleges. I also owned my own restaurant for six years. I love cooking Italian-American food (I'm Italian on my mother's side) and regional dishes from our hometown near Pittsburgh, where I still live.
When I'm not in the kitchen, I'm usually hanging out with my grandkids or running. I've always loved running and while my marathon days are behind me, I regularly run 5K and 10Ks with the occasional half-marathon.
What will you find here?
Melissa's food science knowledge combined with Tom's culinary skills enables us to not only share new recipes and our favorite family recipes but also present comprehensive tutorials and guides.
Our goal is to provide a flavorful experience that goes beyond just recipes, where we share our culinary discoveries, family traditions, and the science behind the food.
